King Richard the Lionheart (1157-1199) was a member of the House of Angevin branch of the House of Plantagenet and the second English king of both houses. He succeeded his father, King Henry II as King of England in 1189.
He was nicknamed ‘Lionheart’ due to his strength and bravery, particularly during the siege of Castillon-sur-Agen.
